Wednesday, November 9th 2011. Mark that down as the day Texas Governor Rick Perry’s presidential hopes ended.
In what I believe is the biggest political gaffe in the history of presidential debates, Rick Perry could not remember the third federal agency that he would eliminate in a cost-cutting measure if he was elected to office.
“Commerce, Education and the — what’s the third one there? Let’s see.”
REMINDER: This is his own agenda!!! He couldn’t remember what HE wanted to do.
Perry stumbled around looking at this notes and stalling with jokes but in the end could only muster up a “oops.”
This got us thinking about some other great political debate gaffes.
The 1988 Vice-Presidential Debate saw a young Republican Dan Quayle trying to defend his age and experience. Quayle commented that his experience was greater than John F. Kennedy’s when he ran for President. The rest is history…
Don’t mess with Lloyd Bentsen
The other moment comes from the 1992 Vice-Presidential (these guys are always getting into trouble) debate featuring Ross Perot’s running mate, Admiral James Stockdale
Our thoughts exactly…
